HOVERMALE named Star in Placement of Ohio, elected to State FFA Office


Circleville, OH – Maggie Hovermale, 18 year-old daughter of Dan and Joy Hovermale of Circleville was recently named Star in Placement for the Ohio FFA.  The result was announced at the Ohio FFA State Convention held in Columbus, Ohio.  The Star Placement Award program is a competitive award that recognizes the top FFA member in the state from over 800 state degree award applicants.


Hovermale’s supervised agricultural experience (SAE) included placement employment at Honeyrun Farm in Williamsport, OH. She is involved in the processing and packaging of honey, beeswax, bee pollen, handcrafted goods, and specialty products. Maggie has also been involved in marketing products at farmers markets including the Lithopolis Honeyfest and the North Market. She started working in July of 2013, has since then worked a total of 800 hours. Maggie received a State and National Gold rating and was named the State and National Winner in Agricultural Processing in 2015.


Hovermale was also elected to serve as the 2016-2017 State Vice President at Large.   She was selected from over 50 candidates, and will travel the state this year presenting workshops, giving speeches and representing over 24,000 Ohio FFA members.

STATE FFA PRESIDENT VISITS STONERIDGE FFA CHAPTER


Circleville-- The 2015-2016 Ohio FFA Association President, Matthew Klopfenstein, recently visited the Stoneridge FFA Chapter. Klopfenstein, a member of the Wayne Trace FFA Chapter prior to being elected to be the Ohio FFA State President, presented to the members of the Stoneridge FFA Chapter about setting goals, and breaking through barriers to achieve success.


The Stoneridge FFA Chapter is a satellite program of Pickaway-Ross Career and Technical Center, focusing on veterinary science and located in Circleville, Ohio.

WIPPEL AND HOVERMALE TOP FOUR IN STATE FFA PROFICENCY AWARDS

Circleville, OH – Two students, Markie Wippel and Maggie Hovermale from the Stoneridge FFA Chapter recently competed for awards at the 88th Annual Ohio FFA State Convention.  Members are selected for these awards based on time spent, and money earned in placement and entrepreneurship supervised agricultural experience programs.

Markie Wippel, daughter of Jeff and Sherrie Wippel of Orient placed 4th in the state in the FFA Swine Entrepreneurship proficiency award area.  In this area, Wippel has owned and raised over 80 head of purebred Berkshire show stock and market hogs.  Wippel is a 2016 graduate of Teays Valley High School and plans to attend Ohio Christian University and major in agricultural business.  

Maggie Hovermale, daughter of Dan and Joy Hovermale of Circleville placed 4th in the Agricultural Sales Placement proficiency award area.  Maggie is employed at Honeyrun Farms in Williamsport, Ohio where she has worked over 800 hours processing beeswax and honey, and then assisted in the sales and marketing of these products at local farmers markets and the North Market in Columbus.  Hovermale is a 2016 graduate of Westfall High School and plans to attend The Ohio State University and major in agricultural communications and animal science.

HyperLink STONERIDGE FFA CHAPTER ATTENDS STATE FFA CONVENTION Columbus-- Five members of the Stoneridge FFA Chapter recently attended the State FFA Convention in Columbus, Ohio. The members were joined by advisor Rachel Scior and the Pickaway-Ross Career and Technology Center Off-Campus Program Supervisor Allen Kiger. At the convention members participated in the Ohio FFA Fights Hunger service activity where members packaged and boxed 92,000 meals to fight hunger in central Ohio. The members also attended the first, second, and third sessions which featured Ohio FFA Fights Hunger recognition, new chapter recognition, national winner recognition, Star State recognition and proficiency award recognition. While on the trip members toured the Ohio State University Equine Center, a full-care horse boarding facility operated by the staff and faculty of the Department of Animal Sciences for all equine-related teaching, research, and Extension activities.
